FAQ
1. How frequently should dogs have their teeth cleaned?
La Jolla Grooming can help with a light teeth brushing only. Please contact your veterinarian for more information about teeth cleaning.
2. How can I make cleaning my pets' teeth easier?
Periodontal disease can create major health problems in our canine pets, so proper oral hygiene is crucial. Brushing your dog's teeth is a great technique to keep plaque at a distance. Dog teeth cleaning wipes are a great choice for people who are unable to wash their teeth or simply wish to change up their cleaning methods. Chewing, regardless of what is being chewed on, enhances your dog's oral health in and of itself. Gnawing scrapes plaque from your dog's teeth, and many all-natural meat chews contain enzymes that support dental health. A professional cleaning by a veterinarian is the best approach to ensure your dog's oral health.
3. How frequently should I have my pet's teeth cleaned?
Most dogs and cats should receive their first dog teeth cleaning and cat teeth cleaning at the age of 2-3 years. If your dog or cat is over the age of seven, it's a good idea to get annual checkups with your veterinarian to ensure their teeth and gums are healthy. Depending on lifestyle choices and dental hygiene at home, you should brush your dog's teeth or cat’s teeth on a regular schedule. Furthermore, if your dog or cat is not a chewer and consumes largely soft food, they may require more frequent cleanings.

2. Which vaccine shots are necessary to receive pet salon services?
In general, the following dog vaccinations are required:
- Parvovirus and distemper vaccinations are given at 6-8 weeks.
- 10-12 weeks: DHPP dose, which comprises distemper, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and adenovirus vaccinations. Your dog may be able to visit
- your local groomer for the first time after receiving this immunization.
- DHPP booster and rabies vaccine at 16-18 weeks.
- DHPP and rabies boosters at 12-16 months.
- DHPP boosters every 1-2 years.
- Rabies booster every 1-3 years.
- Rabies – We require that all clients provide up-to-date records of Rabies vaccinations administered by a licensed veterinarian.
- Distemper and Parvo – We require that all clients provide up-to-date records of Distemper and Parvo vaccinations administered by a licensed veterinarian. You may choose to have your veterinarian run titer tests for Distemper and Parvo vaccinations instead to prove existing immunity rather than re-vaccinating. If you choose to use titer tests, we require an accompanying note from your veterinarian interpreting the results as displaying adequate immune response in their professional medical opinion, as well as their recommended date for next titer test or vaccination booster.
3. How long does it take to groom a dog?
Professional dog grooming should be done every 1-2 months. Timing for a bath and full groom will vary on coat length, coat maintenance and pets behavior. We recommend that our clients plan to pick-up their pet within 2-3 hour.
4. What kind of training do La Jolla Grooming groomers get?
Pet grooming is an industry that does not require education or certification, but both are strongly advised. Pet groomers may work in a pet store, a private pet grooming facility, a veterinary clinic, or from a mobile van.
5. How is the safety of all dog grooming services ensured?
We make sure that the equipment we use is safe for the pets, our personnel, and you. Puppies, older dogs, and overweight pets are professionally handled with care by our team. We use a grooming restraint to prevent pets from spinning, becoming entangled in the loop, leaping and/or falling off tables, and biting.
6. What is La Jolla Grooming Company Pick Up Policy?
La Jolla Grooming Company has recently implemented a 30 minute pick-up policy. Once you've received your automated phone call notifying you that your pet is ready for pickup, you will have a 30 minute grace period to come and collect your furry friend. If you are unable to come within this timeframe, a $20.00 late pick-up fee will be applied, and then $14.00 per hour thereafter. This policy is in place to ensure that all pets receive the attention and care they deserve.
